Citrea is a Bitcoin application layer built as a zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup secured by the Bitcoin network. It enables fully programmable, non-custodial Bitcoin-native applications (₿apps) while inheriting Bitcoin’s security. Citrea uses a BitVM-based bridge, Clementine, to enable trust-minimized BTC transfers to the rollup, where BTC is represented as cBTC.

The network also includes ctUSD, a fiat-backed stablecoin fully backed by short-term U.S. Treasury bills and cash equivalents, designed to serve as a liquidity layer for Bitcoin-denominated applications. The CTR token functions as the coordination asset of the Citrea network.
