Coinbase has rolled out stock and exchange-traded fund trading to all U.S. users, allowing customers to buy and sell equities alongside crypto within a single app on a 24-hour, five-day-a-week basis. The launch includes commission-free trading, fractional shares, and instant funding through USD or USDC, with approximately 6,000 securities currently supported.

The exchange said it plans to expand the number of available securities in the coming weeks. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced the rollout on X, describing the platform's direction as "the everything exchange is growing."

For non-U.S. users, Coinbase said it aims to introduce stock perpetual futures through Coinbase Bermuda Ltd., subject to regulatory approval. The company also indicated plans to offer tokenized equities at a future date, though no timeline was provided.

The rollout follows Coinbase's expansion of prediction markets to all 50 U.S. states last month through a partnership with Kalshi, allowing users to trade contracts tied to sports, politics, and cultural events. Combined, these moves position the exchange as a multi-asset trading destination extending well beyond crypto.

Coinbase also announced a partnership with Yahoo Finance on Tuesday, enabling users to move directly from researching an asset on Yahoo Finance to executing a trade on Coinbase in a single click. Yahoo Finance will display real-time data from Coinbase for asset discovery and tracking, and Yahoo Finance users will be offered a one-month trial of Coinbase One Basic as part of the agreement.

Coinbase One members will be able to earn rewards on USDC balances used for stocktrading, adding a yield component tied to the exchange's stablecoin ecosystem. The integration with Yahoo Finance extends Coinbase's reach to a large audience of retail investors who already use the platform for traditional market research.

The move by Coinbase is part of a broader industry trend. In June 2025, more than 60 tokenized stocks became available on Kraken, Bybit, and Solana-based DeFi platforms through Backed Finance's xStocks product. Robinhood expanded its own tokenization program on the Arbitrum blockchain in October 2025, bringing its total to 493 tokenized assets.

Nasdaq filed with the SEC in September for approval to list tokenized stocks, while the New York Stock Exchange announced plans in January to develop a platform supporting 24/7 trading and instant settlement for tokenized stocks and ETFs.
