CoinMarketCap, the world's leading cryptocurrency data and intelligence platform, today announced it has achieved dual certification under ISO/IEC 27001:2022 (Information Security Management) and ISO/IEC 27701:2019 (Privacy Information Management), independently assessed and awarded by the British Standards Institution (BSI).

As the Home of Crypto, CoinMarketCap is one of the world's most-referenced sources of cryptocurrency market data, relied on by tens of millions of people and frequently cited by major outlets such as Forbes, Bloomberg, and CNBC.

That reach means the platform handles large volumes of market data and user information every day. These new certifications cover the delivery of this data across CMC’s mobile app, web platform, and API services, validating the controls that protect the information users depend on.

Why Independent Certification Matters

Security and privacy are not features but foundations as a platform whose value rests on the trust users place in its data.

In a sector that moves quickly and attracts sophisticated threats, CoinMarketCap has chosen to measure itself against independent, internationally recognized standards rather than rely on self-assessment. This means its protection of user data can be externally verified, not simply self-asserted.

What ISO/IEC 27001 and 27701 Cover

The ISO/IEC 27001 certification validates CoinMarketCap's Information Security Management System (ISMS), spanning risk assessment, access controls, incident response, and continuous improvement. The ISO/IEC 27701 certification extends this with a Privacy Information Management System (PIMS), establishing a structured framework for the responsible handling of personal data.

Both were awarded by BSI following a rigorous independent audit and are maintained through a three-year cycle of ongoing assessment.

A Commitment That Continues

Certification is a milestone, not an endpoint. As the crypto industry matures and the threats facing it evolve, CoinMarketCap will continue to invest in the security and privacy of its platform, and to hold its practices to recognized, independently verified standards.
